Here is a poem where I concentrated a lot more on the meter, which is how I tend to write my poems nowadays, it’s more an exercise in experimenting with meter, there is a break on the penultimate line.
The Weary Traveller
He drags his thirsty weight along the road,
the sun as cruel as dragon’s breath this day,
and many more the steps are needing owed
to make it through his journey’s draining way;
no shade to offer comfort near him now,
no pleasure near the present slog he bears,
no towel in his hand to wipe his brow,
in pains of sweat he hotly wretched fairs,
falls on the next plod, too wasted to walk,
soon comes a beast not at such meal to balk
