I thought today we could discuss the problem of world hunger and how to solve it. Actually as it goes, yesterday I was sitting at my desk trying to produce some halfway decent prose on some ad hoc subject and I quite failed, then today I remembered I had written this piece. As it goes verse comes a bit more naturally for me, and I find involving characters in my writing can help me quite a bit to actually write– now I wrote this not yesterday but a little while ago, and I thought, wonderful, I can use this lovely blog for pieces like this! I think the conversation needs to be had, how can we solve world hunger?
Let us remember Job 29:16 ‘I was a father to the needy and I took up the case of the stranger.’ This verse is quite the stand out, because it implies anyone who is really just and righteous will frequently have the poor and needy in mind– alas surely that is so often so far from the case for the lot of us!
I believe Tim Kellar said we shouldn’t just want to give to the poor, but think how can we permanently make their lot better.
I am happy to share the discussion of Justin and Julian on this:
Justin and Julian: World Hunger
Justin: Can’t all the billionaires put their heads together
and figure out how to end all world hunger
Julian: They could do chap, but it’s no use depending
on what the world’s richest men are rendering,
otherwise it would’ve been solved by now,
and it’s not that hard, I will tell you how
if I were them: build shelters and food banks
in every place, their importance outranks
all other concerns that possibly matter;
keep them well stocked and have plenty of water
available at all times for the thirsty;
that’s the least the poor deserve for courtesy.
Establish farms that are nearby all towns
even if they have to take out big loans,
and devote them to feeding all the poor
who are right now at their needy implore
to be fed by the nations of the earth
rather than struggle and suffer in dearth;
if land near a town can’t be cultivated
have a steady supply of food created
that can keep the needy stocked with their need
at all times; they’re neighbours, aren’t we to feed
them, clothe them, and shelter them as we can,
and the world certainly can my good man,
no matter if the richest bank accounts
must be depleted, in God’s eyes what counts
is delivering justice and showing mercy,
and He’s left that partly to our agency,
that love for other may be our ardency,
so if a person is hungry and thirsty
it’s up to those with store to give him store,
not leave him at his desperate implore.
One might say there is the problem of logistics,
but that sort of excuse completely ticks
me off; contact the charities, explain
one intends to put an end to the pain
of world hunger, come together with them,
they are bound to have some solution’s sum
for the problems of each one of their causes,
they can be solved with such wealthy resources.
Their intention should be to permanently
improve the poor’s lives, and they should do, gladly;
so to all they help they should give a Bible,
and tell the saving message of the Gospel;
but since I imagine none of them Christian
they will first need be converted from sin,
then they’ll feel motivated to assist
the poor, even if all their funds are risked.
Justin: So, to help the poor we should proselytise
to the rich; would they even hear our cries?
Julian: Anyone can have faith, but don’t depend
on them like I said, instead let’s defend
the poor ourselves and prove to be devoted
to justice that in God’s eyes we’re promoted,
proving to be loyal servants to Him,
demonstrating our hearts the Gospel’s hymn.
Justin: So how can us two meek souls solve world hunger?
Julian: If right now we have faith our prayers are stronger
than yesterdays; prayer can solve anything,
we just need apply it to everything.
Justin: Is there a prayer applied to everything
that can solves world hunger then, the whole thing?
Julian: By everything we do feed every person
every day in every land every season
for ever and ever, we’ve every reason
to pray this prayer, it ever pleases His Son,
ever accomplishes His will be done,
that souls for heaven may ever be won,
O Lord Almighty ever lead us on.
